About the Book:
In the opinion of many, field Marshall Erwin Rommel ranks among the top ten military leaders of all time. Dubbed the “Desert Fox” for his cunning and mastery of desert warfare in the early 1940s, Rommel led his renowned Afrika Korps to victory after victory over the British in North Africa. One of Germany’s most highly decorated soldiers, Rommel earned the Iron Cross, First and Second Classes, and the Pour le Merite—Germany’s highest award for valor—for his incredibly daring leadership as a junior officer in World War I. He continued to serve with verve and audacity, tempered with common sense, as a senior officer in World War II. Adolf Hitler, his commander in chief, awarded him the coveted Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds—four individual decorations for courageous endeavor.
