The book discusses the implications of three perspectives of building educational institutions: Techno-economic, Humanistic and Systemic. It proposes that the challenge in Indian higher education system lies in building ‘robust’ institutions with leadership to develop capability to self-reform and self-regulate, a primary focus on creation and application of knowledge, nurturing talents of young students, faculty and staff. In order to improve quality of higher education would necessitate less of centralized policy and control so that public and private universities and affiliated colleges can productively use  autonomy in curriculum design and its delivery supported by resources for faculty and institutional stakeholders.

The book includes eleven Essays, nine Case-studies and four notes on Learning Resources that explain and discuss key issues and perspectives with positive and negative examples. Key concepts, research methods and behavioral skills provide guidance on academic and management process. It offers insights, learnings from experiences and proposals for solutions to contribute to building of well-balanced institutions, anchored in values and identity. The contents are of relevance to policy makers, educators, governing board members of public and private universities, college principals, faculty and PG students of management and education. The publication of the book is very appropriate when the National Education Policy(2020) is being implemented.

Dr. Susheel P. Kandalgaonkar is former Director of Deccan Edcation Society’s Institute of Management Development and Research (IMDR), Pune. He holds two and half decades of experience in teaching diverse subjects like Organization Behaviour, Organization Development, Career Management, Compensation, Psychology of Learning, Qualitative Research Methodology, and ‘Individual and the Indian Society’, a unique course designed for management students, based on literary classics, documentaries and films.

Dr. Kandalgaonkar received Ph.D. in Human Resource Management from Savitribai Phule Pune University and has carried out consultancy assignments in manufacturing companies around Pune city on Team building, Competency mapping, and Executive coaching. He has been a Research Guide for Ph.D. students at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth (TMV), a member of HR-IR committee of MCCIA, Pune. As a visiting faculty, he delivered lectures at Department of Management Studies, PUMBA and Symbiosis International University Pune.
