ABOUT THE BOOK
The book captures one of the most vital debates of our times—how India can deepen its footprint across Asia’s most dynamic regions. Born out of the prestigious MERI Dialogues 4 and 5, convened by the MERI Group of Institutions with over four decades of academic distinction, this volume brings together diplomats, strategists, and thought leaders to chart a bold vision for India’s role in the Asian century.
The book examines the opportunities and challenges that define India’s engagement with Central, East and Southeast Asia— regions critical to trade, technology, energy security, connectivity, maritime cooperation, and cultural diplomacy. It unpacks how shifting geopolitics, regional rivalries, and competing global interests both constrain and compel India`s rise as a balancing power.
What sets this work apart is its blend of analytical rigour and policy relevance. Each chapter distils insights that policymakers can act upon, entrepreneurs can explore, scholars can build on, and students can learn from. It is not just a record of dialogue—it is a roadmap for forging stronger partnerships and building an integrated Asian future.
This book is essential reading for anyone invested in understanding how India can navigate the complex Asian landscape and emerge as a central player in shaping a connected, prosperous, and secure regional order.
