The History of Chinese Literature offers an extensive exploration of the evolution of China’s literary traditions, charting their journey from ancient times to the modern era. Spanning over three thousand years of history, the book examines oral traditions and early writings, including the Classic of Poetry (Shijing) from the Zhou dynasty, the philosophical prose of the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods with landmark works like ZuoZhuan and Zhuangzi. It explores the Han dynasty`s historical prose, epitomized by Sima Qian’s Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), and celebrates the poetic brilliance of Tang dynasty masters such as Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bai Juyi. The narrative continues with the lyrical poetry (ci) of the Song dynasty, the drama (zaju) of the Yuan dynasty, and the celebrated novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

ABOUT Author
B. R. Deepak is professor of Chinese studies at the Centre for Chinese and South East Asian Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Some of his recent authored works include, Rising India and China: Strategic Rivalry in the Himalayas and the Indo-Pacific (in two volumes, India`s China Dilemma: The Lost Equilibrium and Widening Asymmetries and India and China: Beyond the Binary of Friendship and Enmity. He is the first Indian to have translated The Four Books of Confucianism (The Analects of Confucius, The Mencius, The Great Learning and The Mean) from Chinese to Hindi. Some of his other translations from Chinese to Hindi and English include, China and India: Dialogue of Civilizations, Ji Xianlin: A Critical Biography, Core Values of Chinese Civilization, Chinese Poetry: From the Book of Odes to The Romance of West Chamber and the Scholars.
Wang Hanbing (born in 1971) is affiliated with the Centre for Indian Studies at Lanzhou University and a lecturer at the School of International Studies, Gansu University of Political Science and Law. After earning her master`s degree in British literature from the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Lanzhou University, she has dedicated her career to teaching British and American literature as well as related courses, including “Selected Readings in English Fictional and Non-Fictional Prose”To date, she has published over 20 academic papers in the field of English literature and authored several books, including translated works such as Why Are We in Vietnam?(«?????????»by Norman Mailer),English and Chinese Love Stories(«???????:????»), and One Man in His Time(«????»by Ellen Glasgow, publication under proceedings). Additionally, she has contributed to academic works such as A Comparative Study of Chinese and Western Comedies («?????????», co-author) and Penetrating Laws in Literary Works («?????????????», co-author).
