ABOUT THE BOOK
India`s Maoists: Glimpses into Red Insurgency is a penetrating and authoritative exploration of one of India’s longest-running internal security challenges. Written with scholarly rigour and grounded in extensive field research, the book goes beyond headlines to reveal the ideology, organisation, evolution, and operational dynamics of the CPI (Maoist), offering readers an objective and evidence-based understanding of the insurgency.
Drawing upon interviews with security practitioners, policymakers, surrendered cadres, researchers, and individuals across the ideological spectrum, the author examines the movement from multiple perspectives. The book explores the Maoists` organisational structure, urban networks, mass organisations, recruitment strategies, role of women, financial architecture, propaganda ecosystem, and linkages with the North East. It also critically analyses the Union Government`s counter-insurgency strategy, the surrender and rehabilitation policies of affected States, and the complex history of peace negotiations.
More than a historical account, this volume is an essential guide to understanding how insurgencies evolve, adapt, and challenge the modern state. The Epilogue brings the narrative fully up to date by examining developments during 2025-2026, assessing the changing security landscape, and proposing a practical way forward.
Richly supported by exclusive GIS maps, datasets, interviews, policy recommendations, judicial pronouncements, and carefully curated annexures, this book serves as both a valuable reference work and a compelling narrative. Whether you are a policymaker, security professional, academic, student, journalist, or an informed citizen, the book offers indispensable insights into the conflict that has profoundly shaped India`s internal security discourse and the lessons it holds for the nation`s future.
