ABOUT Author
Dr. Vijay S. Khare is Professor & Head, Department of Defence and Strategie Studies (DDSS), Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Dr. Khare was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship by USA and Erasmus Fellowship by the European Commission. He was also awarded Partial Fellowship by the United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Khare was selected for the United Nations Short Course on "Hologrammatic Terrorism" United Nations. Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, University of Rome. Italy. He completed Executive Leadership Program and Advanced Mediation and Peacemaking at the University of London, UK. Dr. Khare received his Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the University Grants Commission (UGC), and Social Scientist award for the research work under the Indo- French Social Scientist ExehangeProgranme at the Foundation Maison des Sciences de l`Homme, Paris. US State Department invited Dr. Khare under the International Visitors programme to attend `the US Multilateral Diplomacy` program. He also completed "Academy Leadership Academy" programme at the Center for the Study of Higher Education, Pennsylvania State University, USA. As the Director of the International Centre, Dr. Khare provides excellent leadership to all international engagements. Under his dynamic leadership, collaborations have been extended with renowned universities. He is engaged in a number of national and international projects and actively involved in European Commission funded projects. He was instrumental in completing more than 16 international projects, namely. Erasmus Mundus. Erasmus plus program of European Commission. Dr. Khare has introduced very unique course after 12thstd (Five year integrated MA/MSc course) to develop Strategic Culture among Indian Youths and Nine Post- Graduate Diplomas, and new Master program in Global Peace Security and Strategies Studies at DDSS. Dr.Khare also brought Rs. Two Crore Grant from University Grants Commission to update and enhance Defence and Strategies Studies: Khare is instrumental to sign MOU with Indian Air Force and brought the Chair in the name of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh DFC and received 1 Crore Grants from Indian Air Force. Considering his dedication to the department, SPPU conferred the Best Department Award -2019 to DDSS.
He is former Dean, Faculty of Humanities and holds a number of academic and administrative posts. His areas of expertise are national security, non-traditional security, terrorism and counter- terrorism, peace and conflict resolution, human rights, internationalization of higher education and Ambedkar Studies.
