ABOUT THE BOOK

This book is a result of an effort to provide authentic, up to date and necessary information on ageing, its different phases and the problems associated along with possible ways to mitigate them. There is vast ignorance on the issues of ageing in the sizeable population of our country. The information on the process of ageing, its associated problems and possible ways to manage and adjust to the changes it brings in, is enormous and is spread across. It is not available at one place for the needy users. As the importance of this sphere of knowledge is expanding and necessary for educating the various sections of population to face the life confidently and benefit the society, an attempt has been made to gather all relevant information and put it in the form of a book. The topics and their coverage have been designed and presented keeping in mind the needs and interests of different age categories of our population. The emphasis has been on clarity and simplicity of the subject. Efforts have been made to provide up to date information relevant to Indian conditions. However, there may be some specific topics which are of general nature. They have been retained to give a holistic picture of the topics to a curious reader. With its balanced coverage of topics and information the book will be of definite source of information for all ages for leading a long, healthy and happy life.

ABOUT Author

Dr. J.N. Govil was born on 9th August 1945 in New Delhi. He completed his early schooling in New Delhi and obtained his Masters and PhD degrees from the erstwhile Agra University, Agra. He joined the active government service as Research Assistant in the famed Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in July 1966 and served there with distinction for 41 years before superannuating as Principal Scientist in August 2007. During this period he contributed greatly in the development 8 pigeonpea varieties of which 4 have been popular at national level. More than 1.5 tonnes of breeders seed of these early Pigeonpea varieties are being produced every year at IARI Regional Station, Karnal. He has over 25 years of teaching experience. He guided 8 students for their M.Sc and PhD and has more than 100 research papers to his credit in reputed national and international journals, many bulletins and other publications. He is a recognized guide for PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding at Universities of Agra, Meerut and Aligarh. Besides, he has contributed to the cause of medicinal plants through edition and publication of 32 volumes of Recent Progress in Medicinal Plants? touching upon various aspects of cultivation, medicinal values, etc. which are hailed as treasures of ayurvedic and Indian System of Medicine. After retiring from the active service, he is busy as Vice-President (Publication) in Studium Press (India) Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi for the last 3 years and has brought out around 250 publications on various subjects from the reputed authors.

Aditi Jain did Masters in Finance from Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) after completing her graduation from Delhi University (St.Stephen College). She has travelled globally and has good experience in the marketing of books and Journals.
