This significance of the Persian Gulf to international  peace and security and to the global energy market cannot be overstated Events such as the attacks of September 11 and the rice in energy demand and prices have only highlighted the importance of stability in the Gulf to the health of the global economy. This book demonstrates that nature of military and political threats in Gulf states (Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Qatar, Yemen, and  the UAE) has shifted during the past three years.

ABOUT Author

ANTHONY H. CORDESMAN is senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and a military correspondent for ABC News.  A frequent commentator on national Public Radio. He is the author of numerous books on security issues and has served in a number of senior positions in the U.S government.

KHALID R. AL-RODHAN. A strategic analyst in Gulf military, economic, and energy affairs, is a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is the coauthor of several books with Cordesman on energy security and military strategy including: The Changing Dynamics of Energy in the Middle East (Praeger, 2006): and the Global Oil Market: Risks and Uncertainties (2006).
