Joseph E.B. Lumbard
is an American Muslim who now works as Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies
at the American University in Cairo. A native of Washington D.C., he is the
founder and first director of the Islamic Research Institute. He is conversant
with a broad range of Islamic intellectual disciplines and has first-hand
experience of several oral and cultural traditions. He is the author of No God but God is my Fortres… and is
currently working on Ahmad al-Ghazali and the Metaphysics of Love, the first
extensive study of the life and work of the renowned sufi in a European
language.
