ABOUT THE BOOK
fjrigjwwe9r0pp_Books:Description
Passing of a Promotion Examination is an important milestones
in the career of an Army Officer. Not only do they afford the achievement of a
substantive rank, they also augment professional
knowledge. History
is most useful when it is studied in three dimensions: First, study in width:
Observe how warfare has developed over a long historical period. Next, study in
depth: Take one campaign or battle and examine it in minute detail. And lastly
to study in context. Failure to study wars in context, leads to a superficial
view of war with lessons and conclusions divorced from their proper context.
Time
for study is always at a premium. There are far too many professional, social
and domestic commitments that detract from an officer`s preparation schedule.
The problem is
even more acute while studying for Military
History examination. The prescribed and recommended
books are not always available in time and usually contain issues that are not relevant to
the examination requirement.
To
meet this need
the author, in this publication, has
distilled the essentials elements of the syllabus in one volume. It serves as an
easy-to-read reference book, which is written in simple language and is
accompanied by detailed maps.
