R K Pachnanda is currently the Chairman, Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission. Prior to this he was Chairman, Haryana Public Service Commission, Security Adviser to the Chief Minister, Assam, Director General, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Director General, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. He has served in the CBI, SPG, BSF, CRPF, CISF, Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police. He graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with a first division in Economics (Honours) and is an LL.B. Gold Medalist, from Panjab University. He practiced law before the Punjab & Haryana High Court before joining the I.P.S. He has been awarded with the I.P.S. Association Sword of Honour at the National Police Academy. During service he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service and six DG’s Commendation Rolls. He was head of the Indian Delegation at the UN Chiefs of Police Summit at New York in June 2018 and has attended seminars on terrorism in Lyon, Tel Aviv and Monterey. He has authored a book Terrorism and Response to Terrorist Threat (2001) and co-edited a book Modi 2.0: A Resolve To Secure India.
