ABOUT Author

Colonel G.K. Sharma (Retired) Born on 07 March 1938, is M.Com. LL.B. from Agra University and P.G.D.P.M. & L.W. from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He was commissioned in the Army (A.S.C.) on 03 May 1964 and was transferred to the Department of The Judge Advocate General on 03 Aug. 1971.He held various legal and judicial appointments, which included various instructional assignments at Division, Area, Corps, Command and Army HQ. He also functioned as Judge Advocate at numerous courts-martial trials and appeared in courts on behalf of Army to defend cases or to assist Government Counsels. He imparted legal education to Army officers by delivering lectures in Military Law by holding Law courses and Law Seminars, at different places. He has the distinction of being the first Commandant of Institute of Military Law (IML), which he established at Shimla (H.P.) during 1988. On 16 May 2015 at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the IML, at Kamptee (Nagpur) Maharastra, the Central Road of the IML was named as “G.K Sharma Marg”. The IML on its further relocation on 07 Jan. 2021 is now functioning at Rao Tula Ram Marg Delhi Cantt., New Delhi. On 07 Oct. 1991 the author took premature retirement from the Army and practiced as an Advocate for 26 years at various Courts and Tribunals in Delhi, including the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi and the Armed Forces Tribunal. He is now practising as a Consultant in Military Law, rendering free legal advice to the needy, as his service to the society.
